The Gomel Branch as a part of the united system of the Byelorussian Chamber of Commerce & Industry carries out its activity on the territory of the Gomel Region in order to promote development of the Byelorussian economy, its integration into the world economic system, formation of market infrastructure, creation of favorable conditions for entrepreneur activity, broadening of trade-economic relations of the Republic of Belarus with other countries
The Gomel Branch of the Byelorussian Chamber of Commerce & Industry is the oldest regional subdivision of the BCCI existing since 1953.
In the USSR in conditions of foreign trade monopoly the Chamber of Commerce & Industry played an unnoticeable role which was principally reduced to commodity expert examinations. Due to disintegration of the USSR the economic entities of the CIS countries that have received the right for self-sufficiency in their foreign economic activity found themselves all alone with foreign markets with no working experience. Information vacuum has arisen, in countries with market economy it is filled by the Chamber of Commerce & Industry System. And it has been just the Chamber of Commerce & Industry that has proved to be that institution which has adjusted itself to needs of the developing market economy most quickly.
The Gomel Branch is not an exception. Its development went according to scheme common to all regional divisions of the BCCI and the CCI of other CIS countries: at first the «Gomelvneshservice» organization was created on the basis of the Commodity Expert Examinations Bureau, it considerably expanded nomenclature of services on foreign economic activity, then it was transformed to the Branch of the BCCI. The Branch includes five District Subsidiaries in Mozyr, Rechitsa, Svetlogorsk, Zhlobin and Rogachev.
The Branch unites about 300 enterprises, organizations, companies, private entrepreneurs representing state and private economic sectors, and also foreign and mixed capital. Members of the Chamber manufacture more than 80% of industrial production of the region. The Gomel Branch renders all complex of services that is a part of traditional sphere of the CCI activity. Membership in the CCI is voluntary.
The Byelorussian CCI has long-term relations with CCI of 46 countries of the world and actively works with them in different directions, the main ones are exchange of information on foreign economic legislation and commercial offers of parties, assistance in organization of exhibitions, fairs, presentations, exchange of delegations of businessmen, rendering them assistance in establishing direct contacts.
